Grade 316 stainless steel water tanks withstand Bells Beach challenge
Posted on February 1, 2025Iconic Bells Beach on Victoria’s Surf Coast is renowned around the world for waves that attract amateur and professional surfers from across the globe. Those waves and the salty spray they generate are also notorious for the corrosive toll they take on buildings and cars – in fact anything metal – and it’s for that reason a client approached us for a few grade 316 stainless steel water tanks.
Living just one kilometre from Bells Beach’s pumping waves and relying on stored water because of no connection to a town supply, the client had discovered regular coloured tanks and galvanised tanks couldn’t stand up to the corrosion that accompanies his home’s coastal environment.
Plastic tanks might have been the answer but the client had read online reviews expressing concerns about plastic tanks and bisphenol A, perhaps better known as BPA, an industrial chemical that’s often used in the creation of plastic products. We’re not going to get into an argument about BPA and its health implications because that’s a whole other issue. Rather, we’re just telling you about a client who had a problem and needed a solution and that solution was a trio of 316 stainless steel water tanks.
For those not in the know, grade 316 stainless steel contains the standard chromium and nickel you’d find in other stainless steel tanks in our range. But grade 316 stainless steel also contains the magic ingredient molybdenum, and it’s molybdenum which provides resistance to rust and corrosion and guarantees long life and subsequent savings from not having to replace water tanks every few years.
We built and supplied the client with three 22,500-litre grade 316 stainless steel tanks which provide enough water to service his entire home and meet the requirements of a growing family. The family is now comfortably off the grid with a home that is entirely self-sufficient and sustainable, largely due to a reliable water supply provided by its grade 316 stainless steel water tanks from Stainless Steel Tanks. And just to be sure they don’t run out of water during unusually dry periods, the family plans to order more tanks in the near future.
If you’d like to know more about grade 316 stainless steel tanks and their suitability for coastal environments, don’t hesitate to get in touch and we’ll happily explain their virtues.
